Torchwood: Miracle Day 4.07 “Immortal Sins”
Best episode of the season. We have two parallel stories being told: one as flashbacks to New York in the 1920s and the other as a conversation between two people in a car. In the former, we’re introduced to Angelo Colasanto, whose relationship with Jack might be unbelievable if we had not seen Jack fall in love at first sight so many times before (although he would never admit it). The episode takes the show’s theme of human sexuality further by addressing homophobia and Catholicism in the exchange that follows Jack’s heart-wrenching line, “I hear the beads clicking at night.” Doctor reference, aliens, and a stunning track by Murray Gold. A triangle is formed, and the possibility is raised that Jack might be indirectly responsible for the world going to shit for the third season in a row. And hasn’t he learned yet that in a Russell T Davies world, love leads only to pain? Good God, Jack. In present day, Eve Myles’ perfection turns what could have been boring car talk into an emotionally gripping confessional. Someone give her an award. Someone give her all the awards. Jack’s beautiful firebird speech. And finally, a cliffhanger that, in true Torchwood style, turns out to amount to very little.
The only episode of Torchwood Miracle Day that I actually bloody liked (And not just for the insane amount of Barrowbutt...
